SIGN the ONLINE PETITION to help us STOP SHELBY COUNTY POLITICIANS FROM DIPPING INTO YOUR POCKET ONE MORE TIME. Shelby County has posted a $14 million budget shortfall for 2009. Our local politicians want to raise $28 million (2 times the budget shortfall) by taxing the simple fact that you might like to dine out ... or may even have to dine out every day as a hard working citizen of Shelby County. Read the latest updates and find out what others have to say. Voice your own opinion as well on our BLOG

What sponsors and supporters of this tax - Mike Carpenter, Steve Mulroy and County Mayor A.C. Wharton would probably rather you not know is that this tax will be used to pay for $11.4 million in raises and benefits. $2,750,000 of that is to cover raises the county handed out last year !

"That breaks down to about $22 per person or about $50 per family per year, according to statistics from the National Restaurant Association, which estimates the average person spends $1,078 a year eating out while the average family spends about $2,600." -  Commercial Appeal  View Article

It's time to demand fiscal responsibility from our duly elected political representatives as local property owners and taxpayers. Just say NO to yet another TAX in Shelby County! IF THIS TAX IS APPROVED, IT WILL BE BY AMENDMENT TO STATE LAW, THEREBY OPENING THE DOOR TO FUTURE TAXES! This tax will ultimately hurt the economy, businesses, jobs and eventually reduce county revenue. Enough Is Enough! NO TAX ON FOOD AND BEVERAGES!
